BEA Sensors

Choose from The Iris, The Eagle, The Wizard, The Falcon, or Safety Beams for Sliding Door installations and repair. Automated Door Ways will gladly assist in choosing the right BEA sensor for your Door Opening Solution.

The Iris

IRIS Presence Sensor: Provides an active infrared presence as follows.

a. IRIS sensor provides two curtains of infrared and shall detect

stationary humans or objects within the sensing pattern.

b. Infrared curtains shall have angle adjustment capability, and

shall be capable to reach within 2 inches (51 mm) of the face of

the sliding door.

c. Sensor shall have a narrow or wide sensing pattern, determined
by a user-selectable lens. Pattern size adjustments made by

field-masking a lens shall not be acceptable.

d. Sensor dimensions 10.3” (L) x 2.2”(H) x 1.43” (D)

e. Sensor provides a 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m) wide (wide lens)

pattern when mounted at 7 feet (2.13 m), and a 3 feet 3 inches

(1 m) wide pattern when using the narrow lens.

f. Sensor shall have a minimum self-adaptation time of 30 seconds

   that enables the sensor to learn permanently changed

   environments.

The Eagle

Eagle Motion Sensor: Sensor utilizes microwave technology that operates at 24.125 GHz (K-band frequency) as follows.

a. Sensor shall utilize a planar, (flat antenna) for achieving a narrow or wide sensing pattern.

b. Sensor shall be concealed within a housing with no visible mounting hardware.

c. Sensor shall be fully adjustable by remote control and shall have a uni-directional sensing capability.

d. Sensor Dimensions: 4-3/4 inches (121 mm) wide by 3-1/8 inches (80 mm) high by 2 inches (51 mm) deep.

e. Mounting Height: Up to 11 feet (3.35 m) above finished floor.

f. Finish: Black ABS housing.

The Wizard

Wizard System: System utilizes dual technology: K-band (24.125GHz) Microwave Motion and Focused Active Infrared technology as follows.

a. The microwave portion of the sensor shall be utilized for motion

detection for the purpose of door activation, and the infrared

portion (comprised of 2 curtains with a total of 48 infrared spots)

shall be used for the purpose of presence detection near the

door threshold area – the two patterns shall overlap each other.

b. Infrared curtains shall have angle adjustment capability, and

shall be capable to reach within 2 inches (51 mm) of the face of

the sliding door. The infrared curtains shall not shut off at any

door position.

c. Infrared curtains shall have a self-adaptation time of 30 seconds

to infinity, enabling the sensor to learn permanently changed

environments.

d. Infrared sensor shall provide a 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m) wide

(wide lens) infrared pattern when mounted at 7 feet (2.13 m),

and a 3 feet 3 inches (1 m) wide pattern when using the narrow

lens.

e. Microwave portion of the sensor shall have bi-directional and uni-

directional sensing capability, and shall have a fully adjustable

antenna angle. The sensor shall provide a maximum field of

motion detection 13 feet (4 m) wide by up to 10 feet (3.05 m)

deep.

f.  Sensor shall be fully adjustable by remote control.

g. Sensor Dimensions: 10.25 inches (261 mm) wide by

2.36 inches (58.4 mm) high by 1.7 inches (43.8 mm) deep.

h. Mounting Height: 7 feet (2.13 m) to 12 feet (3.66 m) above

finished floor.

i.  Finish: Black ABS housing. May be painted non-metallic only.

j.  For 1-Way traffic applications, the sensor that is mounted at the

side “not intended for use” shall shut off when the door or doors

are within 6 inches (152 mm) of the fully closed position.

The Falcon

Falcon Motion Sensor: The Falcon Motion detector utilizes microwave technology that operates at 24.125 GHz (K-band frequency).

a. The sensor shall utilize a planar (flat antenna), and shall be

capable to discriminate between vehicular traffic and pedestrians.

b. The sensor shall be concealed within a NEMA-4 rated plastic

housing and shall have a crimp style connector to prevent water

intrusion through the feed cable.

c. The sensor shall be fully adjustable by remote control and shall

have a uni-directional sensing capability to acknowledge

approaching or departing traffic only.

d. The sensor shall be capable to ignore traffic moving parallel to

the sensor.

e. Sensor Dimensions: 4 inches (102 mm) wide by 3-3/4 inches

(96 mm) high by 5 inches (127 mm) deep.

f. Mounting Height: 11.5 feet (3.5 m) and 23 feet (7.0 m) above

finished floor.

g. Mounting heights between 6.5 feet (1.98 m) and 11.5 feet (3.5

m), use Model “Falcon-XL”.

h. Finish: ABS & Polycarbonate with black anodized metal mount

bracket.

Automated Door Ways, Inc. recommends the Eagle, The Bodyguard, and Superscan sensors from BEA for swing door automation.

The Eagle

The Bodyguard

Bodyguard Presence Sensor: Provides an active infrared presence sensor that utilizes a combination of focused and diffused infrared technology as follows.

a. Bodyguard sensor shall detect stationary humans or equivalent

within the sensing pattern.

b. Sensor shall have a sensing pattern that is fully adjustable by

remote control, for sensitivity, pattern width and pattern depth.

Pattern size adjustments made by masking a lens shall not be

acceptable.

c. When used with BEA’s lockout relay, the Bodyguard shall provide

2 independently adjustable patterns: One for the door closed

position, and one for the door open position. For the door open

position, the sensor shall enable an area of detection that

reaches through the threshold by approximately 12 inches (305

mm) toward the non-swing side of the door.

d. Sensor Dimensions: 11.8 inches (300 mm) wide by 1.9 inches

(48 mm) high by 1.9 inches (48 mm) deep.

e. Mounting Height: 7 feet (2.13 m) to 9 feet (2.74 m) above

finished floor.

f. Finish: Black anodized aluminum extrusion / black ABS end-caps

Superscan

SuperScan Presence Sensor: SuperScan is a focused active infrared door-mounted presence sensor that provides protection during door travel as follows.

a. SuperScan utilizes a “distance measurement” method of

detection, and is not susceptible to false detections due to

changing background environments.

b. Sensor shall be capable to detect humans or equivalent within

the detection pattern.

c. Sensor shall be mounted at the top rail of the door(s) – mid-rail

mounted (or equivalent) devices shall not be acceptable.

d. Upon detection, the sensor shall provide a relay output to serve

as a switch to stop, slow, or reverse the door action.

e. Sensor shall utilize a master and slave module configuration

and up to 12 slave modules may be added to accommodate

wide doors.

f. SuperScan shall be used in conjunction with BEA’s Bodyguard

sensor and Lockout Relay to provide presence detection for the

open and closed door positions.

g. Sensor Dimensions: Available in widths from 13 inches (330

mm) to 102 inches (2590 mm) wide by 1.9 inches (48 mm) high

by 1.9 inches (48 mm) deep (width to suit door size).

h. Mounting Height: Up to 9 feet (2.74 m) above finished floor

i.  Finish: Black anodized aluminum extrusion with black ABS

end-caps.

Active Infrared Presence Detection Door Sensor

Active Infrared Door Sensor
